Standard Weighbridges
Formed in 1930, Standard Weighbridges Pty Ltd was
commenced by Wentworth Armstrong, a Salesman from Sydney, who left the
Scale manufacturing company he had worked for, and started business
with a weighbridge purchased from his previous employer, because in
the 1920s the Government operated most Public Weighbridges, and
did not give the hours or type of service that many transport companies
were looking for. We almost didnt get started, as the bank decided
to reverse their decision to lend "Wenty" the money, and this
when he had left his job, and ordered the scale! He issued shares and
sold them to family and friends, and started business just as the great
depression was in full swing! The company survived, and went on to have
7 sites before "Wentys" death, in the time when manufacturing
industry was large in Australia.
The company has gone on to develop larger and
more high-tech systems, and trucks have continued to grow larger, from having
weighbridges 10 metres long, we now have 27 metres length at one site.
Standard Autoweigh
Formed by Wentworths
Son and Grandson, this organization has gone on to
develop Automation and other Computer programs for Manned
and Unmanned weighing of Trucks, as well as Silo and
Grain handling programs for bulk handling, in conjunction
with a computer software company.
The latest software is Microsoft Windows compatible,
and is user friendly and sophisticated.
